Smok'n
Oldies Car Club~ began in the summer of 1996.
It was
started by five local residents who had old cars
and enjoyed
getting
together to "talk"
cars. Those five individuals were:
Ben
Kellogg
Sterling
Collins
Lupe
Acosta
John
Bock
Alan
Frick

Smok'n
Oldies started one Saturday in 1996 at our local
McDonalds where a car show was being held.
Gleaming chrome and the smell of car wax sparked
a general "we can do
this" out of everyone
there! The excitement didn't faulter - in
discussing the idea of forming a 'club' with
friends and acquaintances, it became apparent
there was a need in Deming for a organization
that promoted older American
made vehicles.
Several
meetings were held to develop plans for this
fledgling organization. Everyone agreed that the primary
purpose of this venture
would be to have fun
while owning and driving their vintage vehicles.
Our
'founding 5' also wanted to be sure
that the club was one in which the member's wives
could participate and enjoy belonging to. A club
that included not only business meetings, but
monthly "get-togethers" as well. A club
in which the guys could talk cars, and the wives
could socialize.
Thus ~
Smok'n Oldies ~ was born!
In no
time at all we had 13
members!
Today,
we're happy to claim 49 members ... with a 1926 Essex,
1941 Buick Convertible, 1941 Plymouth, and a 1953
Henry J. among them!
We've
succeeded in keeping our club not only functional
but also FUN
since it's creation!!
Visitors
are welcome at our monthly meetings and we
encourage EVERYONE
interested in joining to:
