Windows Me Millennium Setup:
These instruction will guide through the setup process for creating a dial up networking connection for Southwestern New Mexico On-Line.
1. Double Click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.
2. Double Click on Control Panel.
3. Depending on your settings, either single click on the link to dial up networking, or if its set to view all control panel options, then Double Click on Dial Up Networking.
4. Click on Make a new connection. The box to the right comes up:
For name of the computer your are dialing use either SWNM or SWNM On-Line. If you have more than one modem, you can select which to use by selecting from the drop-down box. If no modem is shown, then you will need to install your modem before proceeding. If everything checks out, Click next.
5. Enter the phone number/Finish process.
Enter the phone number. The dial up access phone number for Southwestern New Mexico On-Line is 505 544-4336. Don't worry about the area code, we'll disable it later.

Click Next.
You have now sucessfully created a dial up connection. Click Finish. This will take you back to your dial up networking folder.
6. RIGHT click on the icon just created (SWNM). Click on Properties.
7. On the General Tab, uncheck use area code. You can also select which modem to use if more than one modem is installed.
8. Click on the Networking Tab. Enable Software compression should be checked, and allowed protocol should be TCP/IP. Uncheck any others.
Click on TCP/IP Settings.

9. In almost all case you will use a server assign IP address. Leave this button marked. We do however specify name server addresses. Fill in the DNS numbers as shown to the right. There are several sets of number you can use. The best choice for the Primary address is 65.241.28.10.The Secondary address will be 65.241.28.54. Be sure to enter these numbers correctly. For WINS leave these all zero. Hint: use your right arrow key to move from one field to the next. Both Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network should be checked.
DNS stands for Domain Name Server. A name server reconciles the url your type in, such as www.swnm.com, to the IP Address which, in this example, is actually 204.252.56.131.
Now Click OK.

10. On the Security tab (shown below), enter your user name and password. If you wish your computer to connect automatically, check that box.
11. On the Dialing tab, check this is the default internet connection. If you wish to connect manually, then never dial a connection. Otherwise, we recommend dial whenerver a network connection is not present. Leave the redial settings at their defaults. If you wish to go off line when there is no activity involving the internet on your computer, then check enable idle disconnect. We also recommend checking disconnect when connection may not be needed.

Now Click OK.
You should now be back to the Dial Up Networking folder. To make a desktop shortcut, right click on the icon just created and click on create shortcut. You will receive a message Windows cannot create a shortcut here, do you want the shortcut on the Desktop. Click yes.
12. To connect to SWNM On-Line, just double click on the desktop icon. The box to the right will come up. Be sure the user name and password agree with those setup. User name is not case sensative, however passwords are. A is not the same as a. Check the save password box, and after logging on the first time, your password will be saved on your computer.
Once On-Line, you can use your favorite browser and email program to access the internet. We support Microsoft Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, however other programs can also be used.
